1) Difference is, back then virtually the whole world was at war with Germany… and the Soviet Union was aided by the US. Still, they did most of the fighting and won, for sure. Russia today is in good shape. They can defeat the Ukraine, even against the help of NATO-states. Let’s see what China will do. China, I think, has more internat problems than some realise (hence the insane C-regulations). Also, they depend much more on Western trade than Russia.
