Despite the official claims of Kiev authorities that the Ukrainian Army will not surrender and is fighting for Bakhmut till the end, the Ukrainian military command is evacuating the most professional units from the almost surrounded city. However, after the AFU blew up bridges and the local dam in an attempt to stop Russian advance in the city, they complicated the evacuation of their own units. At the same time, there is only one road to Chasov Yar which could be used for transfer of heavy military equipment from the city; but is also heavily shelled by Russian artillery. Some Ukrainian groups, often coordinated by foreign mercenaries LINK, also attempt to escape from the Bakhmut grinder through the fields south-west of the city under constant fire.
After the railway bridge across the Bakhmutka River was blown up, the AFU units, including the 93rd Mechanized Brigade, the 241st Territorial Defense Brigade, as well as the 1st mechanized battalion of the 67th Mechanized Brigade, were forced to evacuate troops along a makeshift embankment.
Ukrainian soldiers made an improvised passage of bricks and construction debris from the left to the right bank of Bakhmut. The embankment was also gradually eroded by water from the river and destroyed by artillery strikes.
The crossing was complicated and unsafe. Since loaded vehicles could not pass through it and large groups of servicemen could easily come under fire, all the military equipment, wounded servicemen and corps of dead fighters could only be transfered by small parts. The wounded cannot be evacuated on heavy tracked vehicles in the area. Most of the medical armored personnel carriers were destroyed during the battle or during the attempts to take out Ukrainian heavy weapons and the most combat-ready units of the AFU along the last road leading from the city.

lol bakhmut is the center of gravity of the entire donbas line it used to have 8 roads/major rail lines going into it controlled by ukraine, now it has 0 yet it must still hold it so the rest of its lines can fall back, otherwise the russians will roll around flank and move north and south systematicly destroying every strong point on the donbas line like the french maginol line
to make matters worse theirs no natural second line of towns or natural features that can be used to form a impermiable defence line before the dnipr river
the reason the battle of bakhmut has seen more than 80,000 ukrainians sent into bakhmut as reinforcements is because once bukhmut falls it will bloom like popasna did and krematorsk adiivka sloviansk, they will all fall 1 after another with much less resistance than bakhmut

bakhmut is a masacure but its concentrated in once place, if ukraine keeps trying to hold citys east of dnipr river after losing bakhmut each one will become a bakhmut but with even worse force imbalances in russian favour less & less artillery air defence ext so thats why their dying in bakhmut because they dont want to change strategy & failing a change of strategy they loose the least worst in bakhmut or at least they localize the disaster rather than in future where it will be 3 or 4 citys their talking about being meatgrinders after bakhmut falls
