India recently deployed its Akash Air Defence System in the Ladakh region along the India-China border.
Akash is an advanced, quick-reaction, surface-to-air missiles with a range of 30 km.
The deployment of Akash Air Defence System comes after China reportedly increased its fighter jets and helicopter activities along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), de facto border of India and China, the Hindustan Times reported.
“As part of the ongoing build-up in the sector, the air defence systems of both Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have been deployed in the sector to prevent any misadventure by the Chinese Air Force fighter jets or the People’s Liberation Army choppers there,” confirmed government sources to an Indian news agency.
In addition, the Indian Air Force reportedly installed the Israeli SPYDER short- and medium-range air defense system in the same area to assist the Akash, as per anonymous sources.
This took place as Indian and Chinese military delegates met for the third time in an attempt to defuse tensions in the Chushul in Leh district, sources said.
“This time the talks will be held in Chushul on the Indian side. The last two meetings were held in Moldo on the Chinese side,” according to Business Insider’s sources.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the nation on the standoff with China. His address will come two days after his monthly Mann ki Baat radio programme, during which he had reiterated the country’s commitment to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
A day after Indian banned 59 Chinese mobile apps, TikTok said it is in the process of complying with the government’s order on blocking of the app, and asserted that it has not shared information of Indian users with any foreign government, including that of China. China, too, reacted while saying it was “verifying the situation”.
Reacting to New Delhi’s ban on the Chinese apps, Beijing today said it was “strongly concerned and was verifying the situation”, Reuters reported.
China reportedly has tank and heavy artillery units there, based on satellite images.

The English-language daily described “a prolonged standoff” while warning the PLA was prepared for any provocation, including with tanks and fighter jets.
“As senior Indian military officers are expecting a prolonged standoff in the China-India border region with the US reportedly voicing support for India, the Chinese military is demonstrating high military readiness on all fronts, as the intensive, simultaneous military exercises in the South China Sea, near Taiwan island and near the China-India border show India’s wishful thinking of taking advantage of US support is merely an illusion, Chinese analysts said Sunday,” Global Times reported.
