India, Russia Signed $5.4 Billion Deal On S-400 Air Defense Systems Delivery

FILE IMAGE

India and Russia signed a $5.4 billion contract on the delivery of five squadrons of the S-400 air defense system during an annual bilateral meeting in New Delhi on October 5, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov told media.

The delivery of the advanced air defense systems will begin in October 2020.

The US had been trying to prevent India as well as Turikey from buying S-400 from Russia. In particular, Washington was threatening to impose sanctions on the both states in the framework of its Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) which envisions punitive measures for any third party that carries out major transactions with the sanctioned Russian companies.

The US even imposed sanctinos on China for buying Russian air defense systems and combat jets. However, these actions have not resulted in success.

In turn, Washington, the formal leader of the “global world”, is only pushing states for further regionalization of its economic and defense activities in order to avoid the sanction and diplomatic pressure from the US.

Good to see Russia being able to circumvent US sanctions. Time “the global bully” (US) was given a very big “kick in the nuts” and cut down to size permanently.

Don Machiavelli

I just don’t trust them Indian politicians… Russian equipment was (and maybe still is) open for Western investigation in India (check submarine scandal).

Don Machiavelli

I mean, it’s strategical suicide of some sort. Let’s hope that Putin knows more. Fact that India is among those who help Zionist plans in Lebanon, under UN (Zio Nations) umbrella, is alarming.

Zo Fu

S400 technology is known for years. Blueprints are stored in Washington and Ankara will be even producing licensed version. Selling S400 SAM whoever pays is wise move as this system effectively counters any stealth jet worldwide. USA is 30 years behind in SAM technology and loses markets and they will be forced to admit, that F35 $1,5 trillion disaster was wasted money. F35 will be scrapped afterwards. This will be huge scandal as all NATO countries are involved. And Russian jets are optimized to jam S400. S500 is already in production. Win-win for Russia.

cortisol

Russia makes money by making stuff countering US stuff and US loses money/increases debt through one of history’s most wasteful project producing obsolete stuff while alienating its increasingly fed up vassals at the same time.

FlorianGeyer

The more US weapons that Nato is obliged to buy ,the better the self destruction of NATO forces :)

Sinbad2

“Russian jets are optimized to jam S400.” WHAT?

Sinbad2

It’s a defensive weapon, Russia has no intention of bombing the USA, so even if the US copies it, so what.

Turbofan

This last point here is key..Russia is a defensive nation..This is also the reason why it isnt mass producing the Su57.. For western MSM junkies, this is hard to understand

Don Machiavelli

It is defensive, of course… But if Americans knew latest technology they can compensate and maybe even upgrade it’s shit F-35 to became more than a bird crusher.

You can call me Al

It is worse, India are manufacturing it themselves – however please remember that these are export models.

Nigel Maund

Correct Al! …….you nailed it!

You can call me Al

Cheers mate.

FlorianGeyer

And of course the S500 is coming into service now. I would think that much of the production of such equipment is mirrored in various locations and also is deep underground .

You can call me Al

Yes, same-same. If they can cater for 40 million in bunkers in Moscow alone; the bunkers we do not know about, hear about are just going to be mind boggling.

Sinbad2

Yes in Russia most get a bunker, in America and Europe only the rich are worth saving. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimdobson/2015/06/12/billionaire-bunkers-exclusive-look-inside-the-worlds-largest-planned-doomsday-escape/#66b8a7f7306f

Jens Holm

What a joke.

You can call me Al

Mind boggling link, thanks.

I will pray that the bastards take a bomb before they can reach the bunkers; selfish b’stards.

I actually think there are bunker systems in place in Europe, but I couldn’t tell you where they are. I mean bunkers, underground tube / metro tunnels etc. ++, for us wee goys.

FlorianGeyer

Is an old Anderson shelter any good Al :)

You can call me Al

I actually had to look that up, which is shameful of me. I suppose it would be as good now, as it was then, unless nukes are used. Apart from the Ukrainians, French, and US is Syria, no-one is going to bomb an empty field, hill or small mountain are they ?.

Oh go on, if you have a spare one, I’ll buy it off you.

FlorianGeyer

An easy way to construct such a shelter cheaply is to buy an old steel shipping container, dig a big hole, surround the container with concrete after laying drainage and forming an entrance and at least one secondary escape tunnel/ shaft. Lay 1m thick concrete on top of the roof and cover that with criss crossed tree trunks packed with pea gravel. Place all the dig out material over all of that and turf or seed the area. Included of course are drainage water supply and storage, power and air filtration plus CCTV and a few Claymore mines etc ,LOL

Have fun :)

You can call me Al

Strangely enough, I have been looking into second hand containers and since we owe a fabricator, how to beef it up. For the family though, I need 5-8 linked together + of course second, maybe third exit.

FlorianGeyer

You do not have to dig deep in the ground is close to the water table. Its even easier to tip clay on top.

You can call me Al

I think I mentioned or inferred that – “maybe third exit, all dug deep – which could be a problem in The NL.” ….. Clay and top is not going to help me as the water table rises.

Sorry to be a stroppy git, its the wine, the wine, the evil wine.

FlorianGeyer

You could be the first to build a Nuclear shelter on stilts Al :) I am sure you could market that in the US as well :)

Don Machiavelli

Yeah, that should be it surely new technology and upgrades are not for export.

Nigel Maund

I’m pretty sure the Russians won’t be giving the most up to date advanced model which is reserved for their own forces. Russia has to make export dollars so has to compromise as it hasn’t the luxury of being too protective. Hence it has to weigh a trade off between business / economics and defence. Not easy!

Don Machiavelli

That sounds reasonable.

Sinbad2

Why would India want to aid it’s enemy? The US has sanctioned India in the past, that’s why India was a founding member of the Non Aligned Movement.

Don Machiavelli

India is today not India of those days. Non Aligned Movement doesn’t exist anymore.

Nigel Maund

This is a good comment. I think it’s definitely in both China’s and Russia’s interests to have all three countries (including India) working together and benefitting from China’s massive investment in the ‘One Belt One Road” super project, which will benefit all participants. Also, as a political, economic and military block – Russia, China and India are unassailable and will, by virtue of this combined strengths, draw Europe increasingly away from the USA which will become increasingly isolated and marginalised.

Jens Holm

You might check facts about what India have. Most things are from the very old days.

Don Machiavelli

It’s not really important what they have but to whom they report.

Sinbad2

Russia didn’t do anything, America backed down because it is afraid to upset India.

Zo Fu

Why Russia still trades in USD – one big mystery for me :D

You can call me Al

The de-dollarisation is going well, but it takes time.

Sinbad2

Russia sells things to other countries, the other countries want to pay in dollars, and currently it is extremely difficult to transfer currencies other than the US dollar. Some of these buyers of Russian exports have contracts that go back many years, and the contracts specify US dollars.

Would you want Russia to behave like America and break contracts?

George King

Contracts are for limited duration by nature. There are always extenuating circumstances for re negotiations, say for example the collapse of the US petrol dollar as international currency.

Sinbad2

If the US dollar collapsed, Russia could claim a force majeure. However if Russia simply altered a contract, it could and would be sued. The legal problems Russia has been having with Ukraine are a perfect example of how western courts, are biased and are subject to political pressure. Breaking contracts is common for the US, because they are above the law, the UK can also occasionally break contracts, because it is a loyal lackey of the USA, for the rest of the world, contracts must be fulfilled.

cortisol

“Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act” = “Isolating America Through Sanctioning Half Of The World Act” – albeit it will take a lot of time.

Sinbad2

The yanks are already backing down, they need India. They think they can use India to fight China, like they used Pakistan to fight India, and Iraq to fight Iran. India will take their money, smile, then shit in their hand.
