Late on January 13, heavy clashes broke out between fighters from al-Zoubi and Kiwan tribes in the town of Tafas in northern Daraa countryside.
The conflict was reportedly provoked by an old dispute between the two local tribes. The clashes began when Kiwan tribesmen killed Osama Qassim al-Zoubi in front of his house in Tafas. Fighter from al-Zoubi tribe responded by killing Alaa Suliman al-Audat form the Kiwan tribe.
Local sources in Daraa said al-Audat is a former member of ISIS, who joined the reconciliation process and moved into Tafas a while ago.
The clashes in Tafas last until the morning of January 14. According to several sources, at least five people, including a civilian woman, were killed.
The situation improved in the noon following several meetings between the leaders of al-Zoubi and Kiwan tribes. The meetings were organized by prominent figures from Daraa.
Syrian government forces didn’t intervene. Nevertheless, a large force from the Russian-backed 8th Brigade, a unit of the Syrian military 5th Corps that’s dedicated from ex-rebels, entered Tafas to impose a ceasefire.
The clashes in Tafas highlight the state of lawlessness prevailing over Daraa today. The situation in the governorate is slipping out of the government’s control.

That’s because you can’t have 2 different people sipping from the same small pool of water, because apart from the cross pollution aspect, there’s also going to be less water for each party to drink.
The Arab League started the Syrian reconciliation process way back at the start of 2017, by mid 2017 with the help of Russian guarantees, the 60,000 strong Southern Front Alliance and 2 other Arab League militias about 5 to 10,000 strong had entered reconciliation agreements with the Syrian Government that still hold today. Then Russia began recruiting opposition factions into a new SAA army corps they created for Assad, and many of the opposition groups joined the new 4th SAA army corps [now converted into the 5th army corps]. Then in mid 2018 after the Russians and Syrians took back the southern territories of Quneitra, Darra, and As Suwayda, and the Russians began recruiting opposition fighters from the defeated FSA forces [but not HTS], and things were really calm in the south for a while. But then Iran moved in and now the locals are close to open rebellion again, and Russia’s reconciliation guarantees are no longer effective due to Iranian obstruction and meddling, which is making the situation a whole lot worse than it should be. Russia only has one reconciliation center in Darra and it has to serve Quneitra and As Suwada as well, but lately the Iranians have made it virtually impossible for any potential new recruits to make it to the Russian reconciliation center, they’re arrested at Iranian/Hezbollah checkpoints before they can even get there, then the Iranians either arrest them and put them in jail, extort about 5,000 to 20,000 US dollars for release, or force them to join their preferred SAA group, either the 1st corps 4th division, or Air Force Intelligence [but only as the lowest informants]. I keep saying it over and over again, in the southern territories and Deir ez Zor Russia is the answer and Iran the problem, but I think by the time everyone else seems to realize the truth it it’s going to be too late.

That’s because the man I’m backing isn’t listening to the Russians, and Assad’s going to pay a heavy price for that if he doesn’t change his tract soon, and sadly so will all of Syria as well.
