An intense fighting is ongoing between Syrian government forces and ISIS in the area of T2 Pumping Station near the Syrian-Iraqi border. The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies are seeking to seize the station in order to open a route towards the ISIS border stronghold of al-Bukamal.

why did PMU stop on their side?
Iraq is under US domination. There was an order from the Iraqi government following pressure by the US to halt the operation of the PMU to give chance for ISIS to obstruct the Syrian government troops from reaching their objective of regaining control of the T2 Pumping Station and al-Bukamal. This to give chance for the US/SDF/Kurdish/ISIS terror coalition to invade and occupy it themselves.
It seems to me that the US convinced the local tribes in the province to refrain fighting with isis against the Kurds. They may be promised a local self rule after isis is defeated. They have to keep fighting the Syrian army and the Iraqi forces on the other side of the border to keep law and order out of the territory.

Just imagine what would happen if Iraq and Syria were fighting together , that would send the US in a tailspin going all loopy and very ballistic privately but keeping external pressure on to have them exit the venture.
Iraqi forces need to step up to the plate; They need some Russians air cover on their side as well. Russians have offered to give them a hand to help them move faster!
