The Israeli forces are preparing for the possible ground invasion on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights in the case of so-called “sustained rocket strikes or coordinated attacks against Israel” by Hezbollah operatives. Local news channel, Channel 2, already reported a large scale drill by military forces along the border on Sunday which simulated a possible incursion into Syrian territory.
According to other sources, Israeli military are concerned over the high number of Islamist militants foolding into the area close to the border with Israel. So, the drill is preparing for a sophisticated, multi-pronged attack on Israeli troops by ISIS. SouthFront remembers, Syrian forces supported by Hezbollah have been fighting to push militant groups from the Syrian part of the Golan Heights.
Nonetheless, Israel has been continuing to blame Iran in possible Hezbollah offensive because there are “hundreds of Hezbollah members” in the Golan. Concerns over own security don’t stop Israel from provocative actions. On July 29, an Israeli air strike on a government-held village on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights killed 2 Hezbollah fighters and 3 men from pro-government Syrian popular committees. Earlier, on January 28, Israel exercised raids against Syrian army targets, saying Damascus was responsible for rocket fire that hit the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
In fact, the Isreali anti-Iran rhetoric rised furher after the Iran nuclear deal and recent developments over the Golan Heights are coordinated with reports that the United States Congress controlled by republicans has been preparing to accept a resolution to disapprove the Iran agreement in September. Thus, the escalation of tensions in Syria could help GOP to oppose the implementation of the diplomatic solution over the Iranian nuclear programm.
