Iran has completed construction of a modern naval base in the coastal zone of Pasabandar.
Commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, announced completion of construction of a modern naval base in the coastal zone of Pasabandar, located in the south-east of the country, as well as further plans to strengthen military presence in the area, the Flot information website reported.
“The Navy has developed plans for development of two naval zones and three new military bases in this area, as it was ordered to boost its presence along the Makran coast,” Sayyari said.
The Iranian Naval Forces are making efforts to improve security in the Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, considering the security of these regions as a priority.
In particular, since October 2016, vessels of the Iranian Navy: the Alvand destroyer and the Bushehr light replenishment ship, have escorted 3,850 Iranian commercial ships and tankers, as well as 25 foreign vessels, in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and the Gulf of Aden, where pirates of the region show special activity.
