The Iranian military-industrial complex is exchanging the range of weapons in service with the Iranian military but it is also upgrading the existing models which already proved their efficiency in combat. On September 26, the first footage from the test launch of the new version of the famous Iranian Shahed-136 UAV was leaked online. Unlike in the basic version, a turbojet engine is installed on the new type.
The first typo of Shahed-136 had the MD550 piston engine, which made a specific sound. Due to it the Ukrainians called these drones ‘scooters’. According to the reports, the UAV was upgraded and received a small turbojet engine, which made it much quieter. The new engine reportedly reduced the range of the strike drone but significantly increased the speed. This should allow to easier overcome enemy air defenses.
According to unconfirmed reports, the upgraded UAV is launched not from a ground launcher, but from an air carrier, which may complicate their mass use on the battlefield but may increase the range of the strikes.
Any details are yet to be officially provided. Meanwhile, dozens of Geran UAVs continue pounding targets throughout Ukraine on a daily basis.
