Well I agree with you except that “Drones do not win wars”. Arguably, they did in Nagorno-Karabakh. Russians have a lot of Pantsirs and Thors so they neutralized Ukr.Baryaktars, although Ukr recon drones are still the biggest problem in my opinion, they find targets for Ukr. artillery (along with US satellites and spy planes). But Ukr. don’t have such dedicated and advanced systems, so they have very limited means to fight drones. Let’s say Russia had 100 more serious attack drones back in February and unleashed them every day and night (and they can be used more frequently than jets), we are talking about thousands and thousands of neutralized AFU soldiers and hundreds pieces of equipment. Not even mention effect on enemy morale and propaganda value.
Drones are not just the future, they are already super important. In a few decades they will replace or at least augment manned aircrafts, tanks, perhaps submarines; Poseidon is a very interesting concept and so is Okhotnik for example. Russia needs to focus on these things, that’s the future, tanks and helicopters and unguided artillery are 1970-80s Soviet doctrine. Iran also realized it’s better (or at least much cheaper) to invest in drones than in conventional aircrafts. Of course manned aircrafts still have it’s purpose on the battlefield but for this kind of missions drones are simply better, or at least much cheaper. Especially when the enemy do not posses effective ways to counter them, and Ukrops don’t. NATO countries have weak air defenses in general and rely on their airforces/USAF to protect them, which make them very vulnerable against possible mass scale drone attacks. If the US ever goes to (conventional) war with China, China will annihilate them with drones.
