The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has deployed precision-guided rockets and drones in southern Iraq, the Al Qabas newspaper reported on December 26.
Citing Iranian sources, the Kuwaiti newspaper reported that Arsh short-range precision-guided rockets and drones of an unidentified type were deployed by the IRGC’s Ground Forces in Iraq’s southern provinces.
The weapons were stored in bases protected by Iranian-backed Iraqi groups. Two units of IRGC officers specialized in rocket and drone attacks were also dispatched to southern Iraq. The units are under the direct commander of Quds Force leader Brig. Gen. Esmail Ghaani.
“The guided Arch rockets and Iranian drones were transferred from Tehran to Kawthar Camp in western Ahwaz, which belong to the IRGC’s Quds Force, then they were transported through the Shalamjah border crossing to Iraq,” Al Qabas reported.
According to the newspaper, Kawthar Camp is one of the main facilities of the Quds Force. Most Iranian security and military operations are allegedly being run from there.
Iranian sources told Al Qabas that the IRGC may soon use these rockets and drones to launch attacks within Iraq or in nearby countries.
“These attacks may be carried out after Trump’s departure and the arrival of the new U.S. President Joe Biden, to confuse the Biden administration’s calculations in Region,” the newspaper quoted one of the sources as saying.
Brig. Gen. Ghaani supposedly discussed the plan to launch attacks from Iraq with Iran’s allies there during his most recent visit to the country.
The attacks being prepared by the IRGC in Iraq may be a response to the assassination of Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, according to Al Qabas. Senior Iranian officials vowed that the scientist death will be avenged, holding Israel and the U.S. responsible.

Iran’s accurate ballistic missiles are defining new ways that wars are fought
The vulnerability of giant, stationary air bases to precision missile strikes was demonstrated during the January 2020 Iranian missile strike on the US-operated Ein Assad air base in Iraq. Prior to the attack, the US teams at that base had launched a fleet of Predator UAVs for patrolling the base perimeter. One of the incoming Iranian missiles hit an underground communications conduit and cut the fiber optic lines between the UAV’s control vans and the system’s transceivers. This caused a loss of ground control over the entire UAV fleet. It took hours to reestablish communication via satellite and bring the UAVs back in.
Needless to say, US combat aircraft based in Iraq were powerless against this missile strike. Simply put, Iran gained air superiority over the air base by virtue of its precision missiles.

But because America will be using bases from Diego Garcia, Europe, and Aircraft carriers stationed far away from Iranian shores, it’s an entirely different thing to attack these targets. More U.S forces will be flown in within hours should the situation warrant it. I read a detailed report where the U.S has already mapped out much of PMU targets in Iraq. The first few hours of conflict will so much damage the PMU’s facilities, especially if the U.S drops its MOP bombs on those targets. The PMU has many weaknesses. It lacks any viable air defenses, air force or navy. Its best assets would be precision missiles and ATGM supplied by Iran. It’s not too late to uproot the PMU.

CIA Report: WHY ISRAEL IS PETRIFIED OF HEZBOLLAH & IRAN
The Iranians learning from the Scud war of cities and Israel’s total dependence on air power to pummel Lebanese civilians decided to invest huge resources in vast rockets, missiles and now smart precision ordinance. This technological shift makes missiles as effective as air power forprecision strikes. Precision-guided missiles are being developed and deployed today by all the major world powers as well as by many smaller states.
In the Middle East, Iran is leading the way; it is currently converting all its older rockets and missiles into precision weapons. It also supplies its allies in the region with expertise and materials with which to build their own precision missile capabilities—hence the Precision Project of Hezbollah and other Iranian allies in the region. It is widely estimated that today Hezbollah possesses a larger and more destructive missile force than most NATO states, bar the US.
Why is Israel so anxious after failing to frustrate Hezbollah’s Precision Project? Because once it has been achieved, it now elevates Hezbollah’s war-making capability to that of a powerful state military force. Hezbollah possess all the advantages of an offensive air force without needing to own a single combat aircraft. Its precision missiles will be able to paralyze any vital installation or terrorize any civilian population center in Israel. It airports, infrastructure and military airbases will turn to cinders, and that is why Israel is stationing some of its aircraft in Greece, also making it a potential Hezbollah or Turkish target.
While other nations struggle to refurbish their small arms inventory, Iran has quietly armed its land forces with 21st century state of the art assault rifle to replace the domestically produced G-3 which has now been distributed to the secondary forces like Basij and reserves as part of its mass mobilization recently.
Photos published by Iranian media on December 26, revealed its similarity to the Heckler & Koch 417 or HK417, a not too surprising development given Iran’s long history of manufacturing German firearms, but to be clear the new carbine is an hybrid version with very similar external similarities. Still, the choice of copying the HK417 is an interesting one. Iran’s state-owned military industries began reproducing AR-pattern rifles in the 1990s based on the Chinese “CQ” widely seen in Hezbollah and PMU units in Iraq and Syria along with captured US made M-4 and older M-16 assault rifles. The Iranians upgraded the M16A2–and later improved them to meet the requirements of the IRGC’s special forces and their regional allies.

The HK417 is chambered for 7.62x51mm ammunition making it a battle rifle with possible conversions to a marksman or sharpshooter variant. Its unlicensed Iranian analog is also a battle rifle given its enlarged magazine well and 20-round box magazine. Judging by the exhibitions where this Iranian HK417 clone appeared there’s already an AR-pattern marksman rifle chambered for the same heavy ammunition. The Iranian HK417 clone does have some external differences from the original; its foregrip concealing the barrel assembly only has top and bottom rails for attaching accessories (such as a detachable vertical grip) rather than quad rails. The barrel assembly itself is shaped different and looks to be 17 inches long with a three-pronged muzzle brake.
The position of the front and back iron sights are dissimilar to the HK417 as well. On this Iranian battle rifle the front sight is attached above the rectangular gas block while the back sight is fitted on the rails above the charging handle. Remarkably, handling the HK417 and this Iranian analog won’t pose any challenge as their ergonomics are identical, from the monolithic collapsible stock and the curved ergonomic pistol grip. This Iranian battle rifle even kept the forward assist–the protruding button on the upper receiver–in the same location. What isn’t know at this point is whether the Iranian HK417 is just a prototype that will see continuous improvement (much like Iranian copies of Chinese Kalashnikovs) or is set to replace the regular army’s aging G3 rifles that date to the 1960s. Another possible role for these are the IRGC’s special forces who have switched to their own choice of small arms.
