On April 21, the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) released close drone footage of a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf.
According to Iranian media, the IRGC shared the footage to demonstrate its state-of-the-art advancements in the field of drone technology. The footage was captured by a four-strong drone squadron. The exact type of the drones was not disclosed.
The footage shows the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) aircraft carrier, sailing alongside the USNS Choctaw County (T-EPF-2) support vessel.

The IRGC didn’t provide any further details on the footage. However, the US Navy Chief of Information noted on Twitter that EA-6B Prowler jets, which were retired in 2015, can be seen in the footage.
This indicated that the footage released by the IRGC was filmed around six to seven years ago. A date seen in the last part of the video reads 16-6-2016.
The IRGC released similar drone footage before. Last September, footage showing the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and other vessels from its strike group in the Persian Gulf were shared by the guards.
The release of such footage is meant to demonstrate the capabilities of the IRGC as well as to warn US troops in the Persian Gulf.

if they can get that close I s’pose they caan also drop a few bombs in the range 100 to 200 pounds. enough to fuck up the career of a few us navy sailors and make starting and landing nigh impossibl.
It goes to show that the IRGC had drone technology for quite a while so they have had lots of time to advance their designs. I would also note that this drone wasn’t shot down before it was right over top of the carrier. I wonder how much payload they can carry now. Enough to disable a control tower?
I guess a small explosion with shrapnels on the deck would make the entire thing unusable, probably sailing back to San Diego for close inspection.

this means the Iranians can pin point american vessels….they could theoritically lunch ballistic missiles and artillery shells agains no jamming and emp devices can protect….bum bad suprise as this non radar using missiles would appear out of nowhere to late to defend and bang bum bang
I have a question for the military aficionados around here: who has the advantage in small-object (ex, 1 kg drone) radar systems? How much range can you get out of the mm radar used for small high velocity projectiles? How sensitive is the phalanx system aboard these aircraft carriers? This ^ exposes a big weakness, and this weakness is fairly critical to near future conflicts.

You don’t understand what you’re seeing. If Iran can get that shot that carriers exact location is known. If it’s location is know it can be targeted with anti-shipping missiles. The USA has always claimed that it’s carriers are safe from missiles because they are so hard to find in the vast ocean …. this is iran’s “hold my beer” moment.
