On December 11, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy received 110 locally-made armed speedboats.

The speedboats were handed over to the IRGC Navy in a ceremony that was held in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas.

The new speedboats are armed with heavy machine guns, unguided multiple rocket launchers, short-rang anti-ship missiles and torpedoes.

IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri said the velocity of the new military boats has been increased from 55 knots to 75 and 90 knots, and will even reach 110 knots in the next stage.

According to Tangsiri, all the equipment and weapons installed on the new speedboats were developed in Iran by the IRGC.

The IRGC Navy will reportedly use the highly maneuverable speedboats to conduct various operations in the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf.

Iran has been working hard to develop the capabilities of its naval forces for a few years now. In November, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, announced that the construction of a locally-designed heavy attack submarine will began soon.
