Iraqi army launches offensive to liberate Mosul from ISIS

Today, the Iraqi military has said in a statement that the Iraqi armed forces have begun an offensive to the city of Mosul from ISIS terrorists.

According to the statement, the first phase of a large-scale offensive that Baghdad plans to conclude in 2016 with the complete liberation of Mosul was launched early Thursday.

“The first phase of the Fatah (conquest) Operation has been launched at dawn to liberate Nineveh, raising the Iraqi flag in several villages,” the Iraqi military said in a statement.

The statement said that the liberated villages were located on the outskirts of the town of Makhmour, east of Mosul- the capital of the northern Nineveh Province.

Since June 2014, Iraq has been observing ISIS terrorist activities. The US-led coalition started its operations allegedly hitting ISIS, although many believes ISIS is a creation of the west.

However, the 66-member coalition has been failing to control ISIS terrorism, when a concerted push by Iraqi forces are dealing terrorists and forcing it out of the central city of Ramadi, the capital of the western Anbar Province.
