According to a US official, the Iraqi army launches an operation to liberate Mosul which has long served as the main seat of ISIS in the country.

The al-Forat television reported that US President Barack Obama’s special envoy to the US-led coalition, Brett McGurk announced the launch of the operation on Saturday.

“The offensive started by cutting the main road connecting Mosul to the Syrian city of Raqqah where ISIS is based, “ McGurk said.

McGurk also added that the participation of US troops in the ground offensive will be possible only upon the request of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.Iraq launches operation to retake Mosul from ISIS: US official

Since June 2014, Iraq has been observing ISIS terrorist activities. The US-led coalition started its operations allegedly hitting ISIS, although many believes ISIS is a creation of the west.

However, the 66-member coalition has been failing to control ISIS terrorism, when a concerted push by Iraqi forces are dealing terrorists and forcing it out of the central city of Ramadi, the capital of the western Anbar Province.
