Two leaders of ISIS were among several terrorists killed in a recent wave of Iraqi airstrikes on the western province of al-Anbar, the Iraqi Security Media Cell announced on September 13.

The airstrikes were carried out by F-16 fighter jets of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) on September 10. They destroyed a key hideout of ISIS cells in the area of al-Jalaiyat.

After the airstrikes, the Iraqi military dispatched a force from the 5th Division’s 19th Infantry Brigade to inspect the remains of the hideout. There, the dead bodies of seven terrorists were found.

The Iraqi Security Media Cell identified two of the terrorists as ISIS general administrative official Hammoud Hammad, who is also known as “Abu Nihad,” and the group’s military commander in the area of al-Rutba Hajji Turki, who is also known as “al-Badawi.” The cell said that two of the five other slain terrorists were Syrian citizens.

Several machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and communication equipment were found in the remains of the hideout in al-Jalaiyat.

It’s worth noting that the very same day, September 10, IQAF F-16 fighter jets destroyed a second hideout of ISIS on the bank of Lake Hamrin in the eastern province of Diyala. Three terrorists were killed there. Three motorcycles, a number of improvised explosive devices and loads of explosive materials were also destroyed.

The IQAF recent airstrikes inflicted some heavy human and material losses on ISIS cells in western, northern and eastern Iraq. However, the terrorist group is still active in all three region.
