The Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) has eliminated 13 terrorists of ISIS in the eastern province of Diyala in a series of airstrikes which were carried out in coordination with other army formations and the intelligence, the Iraqi Security Media Cell announced on December 30.
The airstrikes began on December 28, when F-16 fighter jets destroyed two hideouts of ISIS cells located in the area of Narin.
On December 29, AC-208 Combat Caravan counter-insurgency aircraft targeted a third hideout of the terrorist group to the east of Hamrin lake.
Earlier on December 30, AC-208 aircraft tracked then targeted a terrorist of ISIS who was smuggling explosive belts near Narin.
The airstrikes came in response to a series of attacks by ISIS cells, which left 16 Iraqi policemen and soldiers dead or wounded.
The IQAF carried out the airstrikes in coordination with the Military Intelligence Directorate. The direct cooperation between the air force and intelligence services led to a notable improvement in the security situation in Iraq’s western, norther and eastern region this year.
ISIS insurgency in Iraq will likely continue throughout next year. However, the terrorist group’s influence in the country is not as strong as it was in the past.
