On June 3, F-16 fighter jets of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) carried out a series of airstrikes on ISIS cells in the western and northern Iraq.
In the western province of al-Anbar, a pinpoint airstrike destroyed a truck that was carrying four terrorists from ISIS in the area of Wad al-Qazif. According to the Security Media Cell, the airstrike killed all four terrorists.
In the northern province of Nineveh, seven airstrikes targeted caves in Jabal Qarah Dagh where terrorists of ISIS had been taking shelter. The Security Media Cell said that a unit of the Iraqi Counter Terrorism had been dispatched to the mountainous area to search the targeted caves.
The IQAF stepped up its combat operations against ISIS cells in the last few days. On May 29, four terrorists of the group were killed when a series of Iraqi airstrikes hit a cave they were hiding inside in the Hamrin Mountains. A field commander of the terrorist group who survived the airstrikes was captured by the Iraqi military.
Despite facing more and more pressure from government forces, ISIS cells appear to be only intensifying their attacks in different parts of Iraq.
In the last few weeks, the group’s terrorists carried out a series of attacks on farmlands in the northern province of Kirkuk with aim of burning wheat and barley crops. In one of the attacks, six farmers were killed.
