ISIS-linked media outlets have released a fresh photo of the Mi-28NE Night Hunter attack helicopter operated by the Iraqi army near the city of Mosul.
The Iraqi Army Aviations uses Mi-28NE helicopters to provide a close air support for the ground forces fighting with ISIS terrorists near the ISIS-controlled city.
The Mi-28NE Night Hunter is an export version of the Russian-made Mi-28N Night Hunter (find infographics here) operated by the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces. It is designed for providing fire support for forward ground forces, acting as part of the anti-tank reserve, combating enemy tactical airborne assault forces and other missions at the forward line.
In total, the Iraqi military has received 15 Mi-28NE attack helictopters under the deal signed with Russia in 2012. All supplied Mi-28NE are actively involved in anti-ISIS operations across the country with special attention to the area of Mosul.
