On November 24, the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) liberated 20 villages in the eastern part of the al-Jazeera region, which is located in the Saladin-Nineveh-Anbar triangle, according to the PMU media wing.
The liberated villages are:
Umm al-Futur, al-Dikani, al-Jahrez, Khalf al-Shumran, Bakha, Tal Ithara, Abu Amdmana, al-Bniyah al-Ganub, al-Ghizlaniyat, Mohammad al-Samen, al-Bret, Tubela Kanas, Umm al-Wuhush, Umm al-Saqr, al-Mashaghif, Afk al-Hawa, Dahi Midhat, Umm Haraz, Abu Zwuier, Mustafak al-Sufla, Makhazen That al-Ard.
The Iraqi Army and the PMU also captured several VBIED workshops, command posts and ammo depots of ISIS. During their advance, government fighters killed 21 members of ISIS and destroyed several vehicles and VBIEDs of the terrorist group.
The PMU Intelligence reported that the ISIS defense collapsed in the region. According to the source, ISIS fighters are now withdrawing towards the desert area in the western part of al-Jazeera.
ISIS fighters might take new positions and regroup in eastern Syria, if the Iraqi Army successfully secures the al-Jazeera region in the upcoming days. This means that the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) will face an additional pressure from ISIS in the upcoming weeks.
