Iraqi Army Claims 12 Districts of Mosul Captured

The Iraqi Command announced liberation of “not less than 12 districts of Mosul” by November 8, as well as a successful offensive of the Shia militias in the south-west from the city. The statement of Iraqi military does not reveal which exactly areas of Mosul were liberated. Just two days before, government troops lost the district of Aden, liberated earlier in Mosul.

Iraqi and Western media regularly report about liberation of one or another district of Mosul, however, some of ‘these districts of the city’ are just small quarters. For this reason, it is very difficult to estimate a dynamics of the offensive within the city more or less accurately. It is known that active fighting is currently ongoing in the districts of Al-Quds, Khadra, Karama, Aden, Nahda and Qahira.

Terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group constantly change their firing positions, move between houses and neighborhoods via a network of tunnels, dug under the ground. Walking suicide bombers, bomb-laden cars and improvised bombs, laid in the streets, explode, groups of snipers work in the city.

The day before, the Kurdish Peshmerga forces captured Bashiqa town, located to the north-east of Mosul, which, being surrounded, about a week was held by the IS. In the near future, apparently, the Iraqi militia will approach to the city of Tal Afar, and Mosul will be almost completely surrounded.
