The Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) have been successfully advancing on ISIS since the start of wide-scale operation against the terrorist group on September 20.
The main teargets of the launched operation were to seize from ISIS areas along the Euphrates River and re-take the strategic town of Shirqat located near the Mosul-Baghdad road. We recall Mosul remains the last major ISIS stronghold in Iraq.
By September 21, the Iraqi forces have partly encircled Shirqat after liberation of a number of villages in the area. According to pro-government sources, the Iraqi army and the PMU have alredy deployed in its northern part and captured the ISIS commander of the town.
Separately, they liberated from terrorists the areas of Haditha, Baghdadi, Dolab Islands along the Euphrates River.
