Abdul-Ghani Asadi, the commander of the Iraqi army’s anti-terrorism contingent said Monday that the Iraqi military’s artillery had started targeting ISIS targets inside the city of Mosul.
The direct artillery fire on ISIS’s positions inside the city indicates that the Iraqi army started the second stage of Mosul opration that will include the final preparations for a direct storm of the ISIS stronghold.
Since the start of operation, the Iraqi forces have liberated over 70 percent of the territory south of the ISIS-controlled city of Mosul.
On October 25, the Iraqi foreces seized three more villages in the Mosul southern countryside and a gas plant in Tal Kaif district. At the same time, the Turkish Peshmerga took control of the villages of Khoursabad, Batnaya and Assaf.
