On January 7, Rusafa’s Court of Inquiry in the Iraqi capital Baghdad issued an arrest warrant for US President Donald Trump for the killing Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of the Popular Mobilization Units.
A year ago, al-Muhandis was killed along with Iran’s Quds Fore Commander, Qassim Soleimani, and eight other people in a US drone strike on Bagdad International Airport.
In an official statement, the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq said the arrest warrant was issued after the completion of the initial investigation.
“Investigation procedures will continue to find out the other participants in the execution of this crime, whether they are Iraqis or foreigners,” the statement reads.
Earlier this week, Iran issued a “red notice” to Interpol for President Trump and other US officials for the assassination of Soleimani.
The assassination of Soleimani and al-Muhandis lead to a backlash against the US in Iraq. Armed groups affiliated with Iran have launched dozens of attacks on US troops and diplomatic mission in the country since the assassination.
Trump justified the decision to assassinate Soleimani and al-Muhandis by claiming that they were plotting an attack on the US embassy in Baghdad. Today, one year after the assassination, US presence and interests in Iraq have never been more threatened.
A move meant to attach the guilt on Trump, in a bid to ease the negotiations between Iran and Biden administeation.

I completely understand the Iraqi’s and Iranian’s perspective. That they have a right to self defense and that they killed US military in that process. And that Trump used that as a justification for the drone strike. When he should have gotten the US out of Iraq instead like he said that he wants to do.
