The Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) has carried out a new series of airstrikes on ISIS terrorists in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala.
On January 20, Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out airstrikes on four hideouts of the terrorist group in an area of Diyala located to the north of Tuz Khurma district in the neighboring province of Saladin. The IQAF said that the hideouts were completely destroyed as a result of the airstrikes, without clarifying how many terrorists were killed.
The very next day, January 21, an AC-208 Combat Caravan counter-insurgency aircraft of the IQAF struck a gathering of ISIS terrorists who were moving near the targeted hideouts in the same area.
The Iraqi military and security forces found the dead bodies of five terrorists while counducting a search operation in the area on January 22, according to a statement by the Iraqi Security Media Cell. Weapons and logistic supplies were also seized.
Recently, the IQAF stepped up its airstrikes on ISIS cells and their hideouts across Iraq in cooperation with local intelligence services.
Aerial operations inflicted some heavy human and material losses on the terrorist group in the last few months. However, more should be done on the ground to put an end to the group’s insurgency in Iraq, which have been ongoing for more than five years now.
