Despite claims of the Iraqi military command, the situation in the south-eastern neighborhood of Mosul is not so good.

Iraqi Forces Face Troubles in Eastern Mosul

More than a week ago, the Iraqi military command stated that practically the entire south-eastern neighborhood of Mosul, Intisar, has come under control of the government forces. However, a few days later, it became known that the situation in this direction is not so good, as media represent it, the Voyennyy Obozrevatel information website reported.

So far, an offensive of the Iraqi Army only in the north-east of Mosul can be called relatively successful. Presence of government troops in the districts of Hai Al Zahra (previously known as Saddam district), Arpachay, Al Samah, Karkukli, Arbajiyah, as well as Tahrir district, which was recaptured a few days ago, was repeatedly confirmed, including by videos.

The situation in the east of Mosul is still volatile, and not everyone is resolved to recognize the fact that eastern neighborhoods of the city are under control of Iraqi military. The Army has more or less strong position in the districts of Khadra and al-Quds. Meanwhile, active hostilities every day go on in the districts al-Karamah and Aden.

The most difficult situation is in the south-east of the city. The most part of map-makers mark that almost all the south-eastern areas are controlled by Iraqi military, but it is very far from the truth. Neither Intisar district, nor Domiz, nor any other neighborhoods are controlled by the Iraqi Army. Almost every other day, the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group reports about a successful repelling of another attack here. Government forces suffer significant losses, but official briefs practically do not report anything about this.

Snipers and suicide bombers continue to be the main limiting factors of the offensive of Iraqi government troops in Mosul. On November 22, a car bomb was blown up in the immediate vicinity of an assault group of the Iraqi Special Forces, which was trying to penetrate in Intisar district. According to the IS, as a result of the attack, at least 18 members of the special unit were killed and more than 40 others were wounded, as well as one Abrams tank and one bulldozer were destroyed, while several Humvee vehicles were damaged.
