Last night, the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) liberated the strategic town of Shirqat from the ISIS terrorist group.
The operation to liberate Shirqat was a part of the wide-scale offensive of the Iraqi forces in order to put pressure on ISIS militants along the Euphrates River and set a foothold for an advance on the ISIS stronghold of Mosul.
Hawija will most likely become the next target of the Iraqi forces.
Shirqat is located on Tigris, not Euphrates.
