Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on November 22 that his country was facing “serious, clear and tangible” threats from Israel and that Baghdad has taken “internal and external steps” to counter them.
“The reality is that there is a tangible threat. So, Iraq must not be pushed into war. These matters are explained in detail to political leaders and faction leaders, with the prime minister providing detailed explanations about the risks of acting against any country from Iraqi territory,” Hussein said during a speech at the fifth Middle East Peace and Security Conference.
Israel has faced hundreds of drone and missile attacks from Iraq since the outbreak of the war in Gaza in October of last year, with the majority of these attacks being claimed by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed factions.
Earlier this week, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar called on the United Nations Security Council to pressure Baghdad to end attacks by Iran-backed factions, warning that Israel has the right to defend itself under the UN Charter.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said that Sa’ar’s threat was a pretext for Israel to attack Iraq and expand the war in the region.
Later, Arab media reported that the United States informed Baghdad that Israeli strikes against Iraq were “imminent,” unless government forces managed to prevent Iran-backed armed factions from launching attacks against Israel.
Iraq took the Israeli threat seriously, as Hussien confirmed that al-Sudani directed the armed forces to take strict measures against any factions using Iraqi territory to launch attacks.
“Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani directed the armed forces to take strict measures against any parties using Iraqi territory to launch attacks, while the government continues its diplomatic efforts with influential western capitals to stop the escalation in Iraq,” the country’s top diplomat said.
The number of attacks announced by the IRI decreased over the past week. However, it is still unclear if the group will halt operations against Israel.

hungary’s orban praises netanjahu and directly invites him to hungary, while condemning the icc’s arrest warrant against netanjahu. orban said (quote): “that is why i will invite benjamin netanyahu today, which will have no consequences for him. we will reject the arrest warrant if he accepts the invitation.”
orban is an arrow cross man. the hungarian fascists sent their jewish population to auschwitz in 1944 after admiral horthy was overthrown by them. bibi by going there would be supporting the heirs of the arrow cross. he has no principles anyway…
