The PMU intelligence announced that the operation in Hatar town southwest of Mosul was sudden and rapid and placed ISIS in an critical situation in the neighboring area of Baaj.
The PMU made additional efforts in order to avoid civilian casualties among locals in Hatar and the nearby areas. Some people already returned to their towns after the buildings had been cleared of the mines. Civilians returned to the villages of Dabisah, ‘Aliibah al-Sharqiya,’ Alibah al-Gharbia and Tall Rajam al-Kabir.
All locals are expected to return to their villages within days according to a source from the PMU.
From its side, ISIS launched an attack on a military base of the PMU in the area of Al-Kelo 40 north of the city of Rutba.
The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq also published a video showing armed drone targeting two PMU fighters in the vicinity of Hatar.
The battle for Mosul slowed down in the end of the week. Iraqi forces are regrouping and readying to launch a new offensive targeting the Zinjili district and the Al-Sina’a zone in western Mosul.
Local sources said that ISIS deployed its members in homes with civilians in the remaining ISIS-held area in the city. Thus, terrorists use Mosul locals as a shield from artillery and air strikes.
