The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) eliminated a group of ISIS suicide bombers that had attempted to sneak into Iraq from Syria, Qatar al-Obeidi, a senior commander in the PMU, announced on June 29.

According to al-Obeidi, the group, which consisted of five terrorists, was eliminated by a unit of the PMU’s 27th Brigade near the border area of al-Tarfawi in western al-Anabar.
“Security forces spotted the suicide bombers’ movement as they infiltrated from Syrian territory towards the western sector of the [al-Anbar] province,” the commander said, and added: “The troops imposed strict security measures to avoid any security breach”.
Last March, three ISIS suicide bombers sneaked into Iraq from Syria and blew themselves up in the town of Kairouan in the southern part of the Sinjar region. However, no one was killed or injured.
The security situation in western Iraq witnessed major improvement over the last few months, thanks to the intense security operations of the Iraqi military and the PMU. However, ISIS cells are still trying to reestablish their influence in the region.
