The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed factions, launched on June 24 another drone attack against Israel. The attack targeted a “vital target” in Haifa, the group said in a statement without elaborating.

The drone attack was carried out in response to Israel’s “massacres” against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, the IRI noted in its statement.

Hebrew media also reported a drone attack from Iraq.

Israeli fighter jets shot down a drone heading toward Israel from the eastern direction overnight, the Israeli military says. According to the IDF, the drone did not enter Israeli airspace, and therefore sirens did not sound in any areas.

The IRI began launching attacks against Israel on October 17 in response to the Israeli war on Gaza, which broke out just ten days earlier. Israel has not openly responded to the IRI’s attacks yet. Nevertheless, it was blamed for several strikes that targeted Iran-backed armed factions along the Syrian-Iraqi border in the Al-Bukamal area and near the Syrian capital, Damascus, after the start of the war in Gaza.

It’s worth noting that, according to the information available, this is the 119th attack by the Iraqi resistance against Israel since the beginning of the Gaza war.

Israel has been waging an atrocious onslaught against the Gaza Strip, targeting hospitals, residences, and houses of worship after Palestinian groups launched a surprise attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, on October 7. At least 37,598 Palestinians have been killed so far, most of them women and children.
