U.S. forces targeted and killed two Sunni farmers after losing a drone over the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar on June 29.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq – ‘Ashab al-Kahf (AK) revealed the incident in a statement released on July 2. The group confirmed that the drone was shot down by its fighters near the town of al-Bu Zuir in the area of Therthar.
The victims, Kilan Bashir Hamid al-Nimrawi and Sadiq Salim Sharif al-Nimrawi, were present at the scene of the incident. They recovered the wreckage of the downed drone, likely to hand it over to security forces. On their way back, a U.S. strike targeted their pick-up truck killing both of them.
“A pledge from us to you, dear martyrs, that we are on your path, walking, following your traces and calling for your revenge,” the AK’s statement reads.
Iraqi sources confirmed the incident. However, the Iraqi government and the U.S.-led coalition are yet to comment on the matter.
Founded in August of 2019, AK is a pro-Iran Shiite armed group. Last April, the group claimed responsibility for the attack on a U.S. convoy in northern Iraq. In a recent statement, the group warned Iraqi companies from cooperating with U.S. forces.
The al-Bu Zuir’s incident is an example of the ongoing covert war between Iranian-backed groups and U.S. forces in Iraq. The assassination of Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Deputy-Commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Iran’s Quds Force Commander Maj. Gen. Qassim Soleimani, sparked the conflict.

A drone is worth two farmers so a fighter jet would have to be worth a city couple and child.
So the US has not actually won the war on Iraq it launched over a decade and a half ago.
Looks like our public schools, including West Point have done an excellent job of dumbing down the cohorts. It only took 15 years or so to figure out we were defeated in Vietnam.
