Early on March 30, Iraqi security forces foiled an attempt to attack a convoy moving supplies for the United States-led coalition.
Security forces uncovered and dismantled an improvised explosive device (IED) that was planted on the side of a strategic highway that links the cities of al-Diwaniyah, the capital of al-Qadisiyyah province, and the city of al-Hillah, the capital of the Babylon province, in the country’s southern region.
The Sabreen News channel on Telegram, which is close to pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq, said that the IED was planted to target a convoy carrying logistic supplies for the U.S.-led coalition. The channel didn’t name the group responsible for the attack attempt.
Later on in the day, the Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate announced that a total of 21 IEDs were uncovered in the northern provinces of Kirkuk and Nineveh, the western province of al-Anbar and the central province of Saladin. These IEDs were apparently planted by ISIS cells, and not related to recent attacks on coalition supply convoys.
Since the start of the year, at least eight convoys moving logistic supplies and military equipment for the U.S.-led coalition have come under attack in Iraq.
The most recent attack took place in Babylon on March 26. The attack caused some damage. However, no casualties were reported. A pro-Iranian shadowy armed group known as the International Resistance claimed responsibility for the attack.
Attacks against the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq increased following the assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units, and Commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qassim Soleimani, by the U.S. more than three years ago. The main goal behind these attacks is to force Washington to pull its troops out from the country.
MORE ON THIS TOPIC:
the best thing for Iraq’s security is to destroy all the US forces in the country and hang their bodies to be abused
They say they want the US out with one side of their mouth, but defend them with their lives and cut oil deals and contracts for weapons with them out of the other side of their mouths. The arabs are fools unto themselves. I only respect the ones linked to Iran. They seem to be more consistent.
Its been the Arabs downfall for centuries allowing themselves to be divided, its been that way since Saladin tried to unite them.
If the so called Iraqi army had any balls they would be the ones attacking the convoy.
