The Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) has dealt a powerful blow to ISIS cells in the eastern province of Diyala, in cooperation with the Military Intelligence Directorate.

On June 2, based on information provided by the intelligence service, IQAF F-16IQ fighter jets carried out airstrikes against three hideouts of the terrorist group near Hamrin lake. The next day, June 3, Iraqi AC-208 counter-insurgency aircraft targeted a fourth hideout in the same area.

The Iraqi Security Medi Cell revealed in a statement that four terrorists of ISIS were killed in the first wave of airstrikes, and three others were killed in the second.

The airstrikes were the most recent in a series of operations by the IQAF and local intelligence services that claimed the lives of dozens of ISIS terrorists in different parts of the country this year.

Last month, the IQAF carried out three such operations. A wave of airstrikes targeted a cell of ISIS that was hiding in Wadi al-Chai in Kirkuk on May 4. Three terrorists, including ISIS’s judge in the province, were killed in the airstrikes. Later on May 7, airstrikes hit a hideout of the terrorist group in the countryside of Diyala. On May 16, another wave of airstrikes hit hideouts in Wadi al-Chai, killing at least six terrorists.

The recent operations proved that the Iraqi military has the ability to operate against ISIS without any support from the United States-led coalition.
