On March 24, warplanes of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) carried out a series of airstrikes on several hideouts of ISIS in the area of Narin in the eastern province of Diyala.
Major General Yahya Rasool, a spokesman for the Iraqi Commander-in-Chief, said in a statement that the IQAF launched the airstrikes in coordination with the Directorate of Military Intelligence.
The pinpoint airstrikes were carried out by F-16IQ fighter jets and AC-208 Combat Caravan counter-insurgency aircraft. According to an initial statement by the IQAF, at least three ISIS terrorists were killed in the airstrikes.
The IQAF has targeted dozens of ISIS hideouts inIraq since the start of the year. On March 14, F-16IQ fighter jets carried out a series of airstrikes on a hideout of the terrorist group located to the east of the town of Amerli in the central province of Saladin.
Most of the recent airstrikes were carried out in coordination with local intelligence services. The IQAF has demonstrated its ability to operate without any support from the United States-led coalition.
Iraq announced the defeat of ISIS in 2017. Nevertheless, the terrorist group is still waging an insurgency in different parts of the country.
