Iraqi Warplanes Pound ISIS-Infested Island In Saladin

By the Iraqi Air Force official Twitter account

On April 19, F-16 warplanes of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) carried out a series of airstrikes on an ISIS-infested island in the northern part of the country.

In an official statement, the Security Media Cell said the airstrikes targeted the group’s hideouts on the Abdulaziz island on the Tigris river, west of Saladin’s al-Dour district.

“From these [targeted] areas, terrorist elements set off to target security forces and the citizens,” the statement reads.

According to the Security Media Cell, the airstrikes eliminated a group of ISIS terrorists and fully destroyed the group’s hideouts on the island.

ISIS cells are known to be active in different parts of Saladin. This month, the terrorist group carried out four attacks against the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) and the Tribal Mobilization Units (TMU) in the province.

The IQAF is making immense efforts to counter the ISIS threat in Iraq. The air force doesn’t only target the terrorist group’s hideouts on a regular basis, but also supports the army and security forces’ anti-terrorism operations throughout the country.
