On September 22, warplanes of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) carried out a series of airstrikes on ISIS hideouts in the al-Shai Valley in southern Kirkuk.
In a statement, the Iraqi Security Media Cell said that the airstrikes were carried out on the basis of information provided by the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency in the Ministry of the Interior.

After the airstrikes, a joint force of the Iraqi intelligence and the army’s 45th Brigade inspected the targeted area in the al-Shai Valley. The force found six hideouts, a tunnel, two suicide belts, five gas cylinders and two shaped-charge explosive devices. Military engineers destroyed the hideouts as well as the explosive materials.
ISIS cells intensified their operations in Kirkuk in the last few months, de-facto turning the northern province into a danger zone.
The terrorist group claims that 34 civilians and government service members were killed in 15 attacks carried out by its cells in Kirkuk in the first half of September.
Iraqi government forces have been making immense effort to secure Kirkuk. The support of the IQAF will for sure make this task easier.
