Iraq’s Kata’ib Hezbollah (KH) has slammed the decision to name Mustafa al-Kadhimi as the country’s new Prime Minister-designate.
In an official statement, the group called al-Kadhimi is a “suspicious figure,” claiming that he does not have the needed personal skills to be the Prime Minister of Iraq.
“We refuse to be part of this conspiracy, whoever are the sides and parties supporting it … This conspiracy is like declaring a war on the Iraqi people; and the loyal and patriotic sons of the country should take their usual role of rejecting this sinister deal,” the statement, released on April 10, reads.
Al-Kadhimi, Chief of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS), was named as the Prime Minister-designate a day earlier. He replaced Adnan al-Zurfi that had resigned after failing to get any serious support.
Al-Zurfi, who enjoys good relations with Washington, was rejected by Iraqi Shiite groups, which called him an “agent of the U.S. intelligence” in a joint statement. However, al-Kadhimi’s chances to form a government are much higher, as he maintains balanced relations with both the U.S. and Iran.
However, KH apparently has a tough stance towards al-Kadhimi. The group declared that it will work against him, calling on Iraqi parties to name a “patriotic figure” as the Prime Minister-designate
Al-Kadhimi’s nomination was also rejected by ‘Ashab al-Kahf (AK), a newly-formed Shiite armed group that claimed responsibility for recent attacks on U.S. forces in northern Iraq. The group also vowed to work against the Prime Minister-designate.
This situation will not likely affect al-Kadhimi’s efforts to form a new government. Al-Khadimi is enjoying a vast support from major blocks in the Parliament, including the largest Sunni and Kurdish parties.
WTH is going on in Iraq? The INIS, of which Kazimi is the head, was created and funded by the CIA in 2003. Just last month he referred to kataib hezbollah as “a bunch of criminals and outlaws threatening peace in Iraq”, after KH had accused him of being involved in the murders of Soleimani and Muhandis.
Remember that Muhandis was not only deputy of the entire PMUs, but also head of KH, who are among the PMUs with the strongest ties to Iran. And yet, some commenters are claiming Kazimi’s nomination is aligned with Iranian interests. So what’s going on? Has Iran’s position been weakened? Falling out between KH and Iran? 4d chess nobody’s aware of?

The problem I’m seeing is that many sources close or at least sympathetic to the axis of resistance are parroting the same talking points.
I suspect this goes back to everyone trying to persuade themselves that the assassinations didnt weaken the axis. It’s obvious they did, at least in the Iraq theatre. Going from Abdel Mahdi to Kazimi is a severe downgrade in representation of interests for Iran, no two ways about it.
I’m also not holding my breath for Kazimi to honour the agreements with China that ultimately cost Abdel Mahdi his post.
Iraq is a complicated mess only because there are corrupt remnants of those who supported the US-NATO occupation and/or prospered as a result of it. Iraq needs to weed out these remnants before it can again be a proud sovereign nation that stands tall alongside her true allies on the international stage.

The “international coalition” is sponsoring (has always sponsored) ISIS; they are not “fighting” it. Hezbollah fires missiles at US/NATO installations in Iraq – there, fixed it for you.

Iraqi prime ministers are not chosen by Iran. They were chosen by Washington in the past, we’ll see if that continues.
The current Iraqi flag just looks more and more like a puppet flag with every passing day. Iraq was sovereign when it had the three stars. Btw it had nothing to do with Saddam, it predated his rule by 16 years, s that argument is bull.
