The threats against Iran will shorten the life of the “Israeli regime,” Major General Hossein Salami, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warned during a meeting with a group of social media activists on September 13.
“The Zionists are grappling with many problems, and signs of their decline are evident. Thus, they have resorted to empty rhetoric and threats to assassinate our commanders,” the commander said. “Go ahead if your previous assassination operations have increased your security. However, you should know that if you make threats against [Iran’s] security, we will have more options and your life will be cut short.”
Maj. Gen. Salami also said that Iran managed to thwart almost all of “the enemy’s destructive and dangerous strategies” over the past 45 years while the United States failed to even support its allies.
“The wars in Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq showed that the military option is no longer a viable solution for them (the Americans) and that their plots to install puppet governments have failed in this region,” the commander said.
“They cannot even provide full support for the Zionist regime, and this inability has turned into an unwillingness to some extent,” he noted, adding that Israel is gradually losing hope of continued U.S. support.
The warning appears to be a direct response to recent threats by David Barnea, director of Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Mossad.
Earlier this week, Barnea accused Iran of intensifying its worldwide “terror” campaign against Israeli citizens and Jewish targets. He warned that should Iran harm Israeli citizens, his country will target the “highest echelon … in the heart of Tehran.”
The covert war between Israel and Iran has been heating up. Last month, Tehran revealed a plot by the Mossad to sabotage the Iranian defense industry.
Despite recent escalation, a direct armed conflict between Israel and Iran remains highly unlikely. Both countries recognize the risks associated with such a conflict.
