No Iranian positions around Damascus were struck in the recent Israeli attack on the Syrian capital, Maj. Gen. Mohsen Rezaee, a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander, told the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) on August 25.
“This is a lie and not true … Israel and the United States do not have the power to attack Iran’s various centers, and our (military) advisory centers have not been harmed,” the semi-official news agency quoted the IRGC commander as saying.
Late on August 24, Israeli warplanes struck several military positions in the vicinity of the town of Aqraba south of Damascus.
The Israeli military said that it had targeted positions of the IRGC’s Quds Force and affiliated units, who were preparing to launch several armed drones at its positions.
According to initial reports, fighters of Hezbollah were killed in the Israeli airstrikes. However, it remains unclear if any IRGC service members were also killed or injured. Both Iran and Hezbollah vowed to respond to any attack on their troops in Syria.
