IRGC Dismantles Terrorist Cell In Southeastern Iran

On August 3, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had dismantled a terrorist cell in Iran’s southeastern region.

The public relations office of the IRGC Ground Forces said in a statement that the cell was affiliated with “arrogance powers,” a term the guards usually use to refer to the United States or Israel. According to the statement, the cell was planning to carry out subversive and terrorist operations in the southeastern region and was dismantled before being able to carry out any action.

The cell was made of four members all of whom were detained during an intelligence operation by the IRGC Ground Forces.

Just a day earlier, Iranian intelligence and security forces said that they had identified and dismantled a terrorist cell in Eslamshahr city in the southwest of the capital, Tehran, before it could carry out a bombing.

The security situation in Iran’s southeastern region has been unstable for a while now. The unrest has been especially clear in the province of Sistan-Baluchistan which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan and is known to be a key route for drug trafficking.

Last month, at least four road police patrol officers were killed as a result of a terrorist attack in the city of Zahedan in Sistan-Baluchistan.
