On September 23, the naval forces of the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) received 188 new drones and helicopters.

The drones and helicopters were handed over to the IRGC Navy in a ceremony held in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas. The guards top Commander Major General Hossein Salami and IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri attended the ceremony.

During the ceremony, three types of vertical take-off and landing, VTOL, drones, dubbed Sepehr, Shahab-2 and Hodhod-4, were unveiled for the first time. According to IRGC Navy commander, the three drones can take off from naval vessels.

The IRGC also received a number of Mohajer-6 drones for the first time. The drone, which has a range of 200 km, can be armed with up to four guided missiles.

Photos of the ceremony revealed that the IRGC NAVY had also received dozens of Ababil-2, Ababil-3 and Kavosh [a copy of the U.S.-made ScanEagle] drones.

A number of helicopters and amphibious aircraft, which were likely overhauled or upgraded, were also handed over to the IRGC Navy. Two of the helicopters were Mi-8/17 capable of firing anti-ship missiles.

Iran boosted its military industry in the last few years to face the growing pressure and repeated threats from the U.S. and Israel.

The UN Security Council is set to lift the arms embargo on Iran next month as determined in the 2015 nuclear deal. This will allow Tehran to further boost its military capabilities.

Well, from that $160billion Obongo gave them they can build a few more I guess…

John Wallace

It was their money in the first place that had been held illegally by the US. So more correct to say it was returned rather than given to them, not that you were saying it was but some may infer otherwise. Not one dollar was in US paper as it was all in cash in non US money as a final insult. By illegal US sanctions it is costing Iran more than what was returned. With the US breathing heavy on their neck no one can blame them for building defensive measures.

AP FACT CHECK: Trump’s Iran cash story oft-told, still bogus

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump likes to tell a story about the U.S. paying out billions of dollars to Iran as part of the multinational deal freezing its nuclear program and easing sanctions against it. What he doesn’t say is that most of that money was Iran’s to begin with. The rest relates to an old debt the U.S. had with Iran.

The numbers and some details change in his retelling — dating back to the 2016 campaign — but his bottom line is always the same: The Obama administration was hoodwinked into giving Iran all that money, some of it in a huge and hidden bundle of cash.

The latest iteration of his claim Tuesday and the reality behind it:

TRUMP: “The Iran deal is a terrible deal. We paid $150 billion. We gave $1.8 billion in cash. That’s actual cash, barrels of cash. It’s insane. It’s ridiculous. It should have never been made. But we will be talking about it.” — remarks before a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. At a news conference Tuesday, he spoke about “giving them, Iran, $150 billion at one point.”

THE FACTS: There was no $150 billion payout from the U.S. treasury. The money he refers to represents Iranian assets held abroad that were frozen until the deal was reached and Tehran was allowed to access its funds.

The payout of about $1.8 billion is a separate matter. That dates to the 1970s, when Iran paid the U.S. $400 million for military equipment that was never delivered because the government was overthrown and diplomatic relations ruptured.

S. Korea: “Iran pushes South Korea to release billions of dollars of oil export revenue.” https://www.hindustantimes.com/business-news/iran-pushes-south-korea-to-release-billions-of-dollars-of-oil-export-revenue/story-w7x4J3WPJz6Y1LfTUORHLP.html

UK: “Britain denies £400 million debt to Iran linked to bid to free jailed aid worker” “Britain has sought legal advice over whether it could transfer over 400 million pounds which it owes the Islamic Republic in capital and interest for a 1970s arms deal with the then-Shah of Iran, the Telegraph newspaper. https://fr.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-iran-may-transfer-idUKKBN1DG1ER

Bruuuhhhh you meant to say 1.8B but it was a close guess, just off by $158,200,000,000.

BTW LMFAO: “Since 1985, the United States has provided nearly US$3 billion in grants annually to Israel, with Israel being the largest annual recipient of American aid from 1976 to 2004 and the largest cumulative recipient of aid ($142.3 billion, not inflation-adjusted) since World War II.”

Iran got it own money and people still mad shit but forget about Zion which is raping America LMFAO.

A lot of countries owe to Iran…..unlike that failed Zion charity. They have 8M~ ppl and they still have to be saved by other’s charity….yeahhh now add in Germany/UK/France aid to Israel LMFAO, that’s why I don’t see Zion state is real “country” but a failed state.

Keep up good work Iran, you’ll need those for sure!

Furkan Sahin

they need send 100 to Houthis they want win war

Kenny Jones ™

No offense, but I hope Iran is not stupid enough to sell arms to Turkey after the embargo ends, I know you’re Turkish but still

Furkan Sahin

true bro <3

Kenny Jones ™

No offense, but in a big future conflict, Turkey may also be on the side of the US, especially if the stage is Syria, Iran wouldn’t want its own missiles pointed against it and its allied force.

During the recent war game in the Indian ocean, 2 American UAVs (one Reaper and one Global Hawk, the seem to be slow learners!) attempted to get close to the declared (and reserved) area and gather intel or do whatever they do these days (strange because there was no passenger flight there at that moment for them to impersonate) . Iranian airdefence warned them, the American operator got bold and answered we are flying over international air space, bla bla bla freedom of navigation bla, the Iranian air defence operator told him that you are being intercepted and immediately a Karrar UAV took off and sped towards them. Both American UAVs bravely left the area, They are short on their precious Global Hawks after all! :)

On Monday a 50 years old cargo 747 full overhaul was finished and the plane was delivered to Iran Air. FarsNews pics

We have to make do with what we got until we can build or buy (preferably with tech transfer). Anyway, it wasn’t a small job, given the pressure the west puts on Iran.

French President Emmanuel Macron told the world body on Tuesday that Washington’s sanctions campaign against Iran had failed. At least the little Goldman Sachs employee has got that right.

Sauron

not a top notch technology but for a country so isolated, Iran deserves kudos

hththny

Persians, an ancient /biblical /nation and noble..

Jens Holm

Nice little ones. Soon even smaller units has its own drones…

The next step should be drones only kill drones so no humans are and peace in the world – Very optimistic.

John Wallace

As you drone on and on that sounds like a good idea. Let’s line up the anti Jens drones . Bye dickhead.

Received? Received from whom?

The main source for all domestic Iranian military products since 1977 is the Iranian Defense Industries Organization (DIO).

After the revolution of 1979 and the war with Iraq, Iran faced massive demand for defense equipment. The situation worsened considerably because of the sanctions imposed on it and importing arms and ammunition became very tough. Due to compulsion Iran had to put major focus on the defense industry and as a result it has made giant strides over the last 4 decades. Iran’s defense industry has developed so much that it develops even its own Submarines, Fighter Jets, tanks, missiles, APC and Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles.

In contrast Saudi Arabia which is the world’s largest defense importer currently does not produce even light ammunition, and that is even imported. While most of its peers are major importers of arms Iran exports its weapons to over 50 countries, a statistic which bears testament to its impressive defense capabilities and technological skills.

Iran is thinking outside the box. Boat can get up to pretty good speed before launching. May also come in a recon version?

verner

they are going to need them when they kick the illegal occupiers of palestine, i.e. the jews, into the sea once and for all.

cechas vodobenikov

how important are drones? they seem to be somewhat important—many militaries use them. It would be interesting to know how they fit w current defense strategies, their limitations. Hopefully SF will publish about this

Rodney Loder

Drones and missile technology is the great equaliser that doesn’t require great intellect and expenditure, once the fundamentals are established and procedures created any mug can fulfill any role in manufacturing and utilisation, there is no better than functionality, everyone is equal, and surface ships are the worst possible platform.

Drones and missiles make home defences almost impregnable except against hypersonic missiles with in flight optional course change ability from which there is no defence.

Which is why Trump pushed the NSA away when it came to attacking Iran after they assassinated General Soleimani, so the Greek queers are on the wrong side, if they continue supporting Israel and UAE Cyprus and all Greek holdings in the vicinity of Turkey will be liberated of Greek poofters, bear in mind one thing Assad is not Syria and will inevitably be replaced “not” by a Greek queer, but rather it will be someone with connections to Turkey, that will happen sooner or later, or Assad can realise that even if Biden wins and China Russia and Iran are brought into line with a Global World Order it won’t be Jewish it will be Eurasian hegemony and they won’t support Israel and Greek homosexuals with anything other than lip service.
