On April 21, ISIS fighters ambushed a unit of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) west of the city of al-Mayadeen in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported. Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters had destroyed an ammo truck and a bulldozer of the SAA.
Amaq also reported that ISIS fighters had destroyed a SAA battle tank, which had been stationed near the ambush area, with an ATGM.

This was the first ambush by ISIS on the western bank of the Euphrates river since it was liberated by the SAA and its allies in late December of 2017. The ambush was likely carried out by the besieged ISIS fighters in the Homs desert, that’s located between the eastern Homs countryside and the southern Deir Ezzor countryside.
According to Syrian pro-government activists, the SAA and its allies are planning to eliminate the remaining fighters of ISIS in the Homs desert in the upcoming months. The long awaited anti-ISIS operation may be launched once the SAA finishes its operation against the terrorist group south of Damascus.

Al-Tanf though being Useless due to the Iraqi Border being mostly taken back by the SAA and Allies, Has put them in a Funny Position. Odd absolutely but also very telling. US satellites know where ISIS is and where they are headed at all times. They use this information to make sure their allies are not surprised and ambushed. Russia has similar satellite capability and knows where ISIS is and where they are headed at all times. Yet Russia allows specific units of the Syrian Army to be surprised and ambushed by ISIS. At last something we all agree on… wiping out ISIS. They must be slippery devils since they keep popping up again after rumors of their eradication. Thought this is pretty much open desert with some hills. ISIS is not hiding in dense jungle. They have not had time to dig a tunnel network. They are described as foreign fighters so they are not going home to hide in their villages and families. I find this ISIS rising from the ashes over and over again unbelievable. When you fly over them at night is there no heat signature? Russian satellites absolutely know where ISIS is and where they are heading. What does Russia have to gain from protecting ISIS? Looks to me like they are targeting specific units of the Syrian Army. Is Russia cleansing the Syrian Army of units that may oppose it’s long term Syria plan? There is absolutely no reason for the Syrian Army to be surprised and ambushed by ISIS unless they are being setup for extermination by Russia and/or Iran.
