Yesterday, ISIS fighters launched an attack on Allas and Ajil oil fields in the Hawija area southwest of the city of Kirkuk. ISIS claimed that its fighters destroyed three positions and four vehicles of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).
The ISIS-linked News Agency Amaq also published photos showing weapons captured by ISIS fighters during the attack.

Sources from the PMU in Hawija said that the PMU and the Iraqi Army managed to repel the attack. According to the sources, one of the attackers blew himself up during the attack, killing a PMU fighter. The sources also said there were foreign fighters among the attackers.
In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Iraqi Interior Minister Qasim al-Araji met with Saudi Defense Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

According to a statement by the Iraqi Interior Ministry, the Crown Prince affirmed the Kingdom’s support for Iraq’s people and government. Al-Araji also stressed that Iraq is an important country in the region and made great sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Furthermore, the two sides agreed to form joint committees for the exchange of intelligence and counter-terrorism and drugs information, as well as to secure the border between the two countries.
Saudi Arabia appears to be working to improve its relationship with Iraq, which has been badly damaged during the reign of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
