On February 14, ISIS fighters attacked several positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies around the strategic city of al-Bukamal in the province of Deir Ezzor, according to Syrian opposition sources.
The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported that ISIS fighters had managed to capture and burn two positions and a vehicle of the SAA around al-Bukamal. They also targeted two positions of the SAA in al-Bukamal’s outskirts with SPG-9 recoilless rifle, according to the source.

According to reports, this was the biggest attack of ISIS on al-Bukamal since the SAA secured the western bank of the Euphrates River on December 17, 2017.
It indicates that ISIS is still holding several remote positions around al-Bukamal. This could force the SAA to launch a large security operation against the besieged ISIS fighters in the Homs desert. The SAA and its allies already deployed large forces in their positions east of the pocket during the last few days, according to Syrian pro-government sources.

Syria should not waist their limited resources by engaging with hard targets first. Syria and their allied forces first take out all soft targets to collect resources then they will have enough resources and should go to hard targets with full blow.

Oh come on! They attacked SAA wit coil less gun! What a big deal indeed. It’s just like average rpg missile with just slight longer distance. And what? For exchange they’ll get 15 howitzer pinpoint attacks, and get their dirty face bloody.

I don’t think the ISIS Air Force will like that one bit. Better make sure 1) there are regular Russian troops embedded in the attacking SAA formations and 2) Russia notifies the CENTCOM ISIS protection Air Force that they are Russian soldiers, not mercs. Otherwise, CENTCOM is just going to claim self-protection again when it blows away anyone caught bothering its ISIS pals and SOF handlers out in the desert.
That’s no absolute guarantee that CENTCOM won’t attack or kill Russian troops. The whole Operation Inherent Resolve seems like it’s just been a drawn-out delaying tactic until CENTCOM get’s the ‘Start WWIII’ orders from its Wahhabi and Israeli masters.
