On February 14, ISIS fighters captured the Haifa street in the center of the Yarmouk refugee camp south of the Syrian capital, Damascus, after a successful rapid attack, according to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq.
Syrian opposition sources said that Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and armed groups linked to the Palestinian Hamas Movement had withdrawn from the entire street after ISIS fighters had manged to captured six buildings there.
However, HTS and its allies repelled another attack of ISIS on their positions in the western part of the Yarmouk camp. According to opposition sources, HTS fighters killed four members of ISIS, including a field commander nicknamed “Abu Shadi”.
ISIS conducted a series of successful attacks in the western part of the Yarmouk camp and captured several buildings and key positions between January 14 and 20. Currently, more than 80% of the camp is under the control of ISIS.
According to experts, ISIS will likely expand its military operations against HTS and its allies inside and around the Yarmouk camp in the upcoming days.
