On January 20, ISIS fighters launched a rapid attack on positions of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies south of the Syrian capital, Damascus and captured several key buildings in al-Zain neighborhood between the Yarmouk refugee camp and Yalda district, according to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq. The media outlet added that ISIS fighters killed three members of HTS and its allies.
From its side, Syrian opposition sources revealed that most of al-Zain is now under control of ISIS as HTS and its allies failed to hold their positions inside it. The strategic neighborhood will allow ISIS fighters to launch attacks inside Yalda district located only 2km west of the Damascus airport highway.
HTS and several armed groups linked to the Palestinian Hamas Movement refused to withdraw from the districts of Aqraba, Beit Sahm, Yalda and Babila on December 2017. In response, hundreds of locals who are facing the threat of the nearby ISIS protested against HTS on January 5.
HTS and its allies are incapable of stopping ISIS advance and unwilling to hand over their positions to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). So, ISIS may expand further in southern Damascus in the future.
Is this for real? Hamas allies of HTS ??? and thus is against Assad/Iranians?
Hamas is begging for help from Iran ..
Maybe Hamas in Palestine may not have control over Hamas in Syria? They are after all pretty isolated in Gaza.
No they are the same. A while ago they did snaked Hezbollah using Hezbollah methods and devices against Hezbollah. Then Iran completely cut them off and they went begging to iran for help. Thought they have reconciled
Now here you read this.. gosh those Palestinians ate really useless. They just don’t deserve any help
“Then Iran completely cut them off and they went begging to iran for help.” …..????
Yes, Iran cut all financial and military aid
Other Arab countries do not help much
Read they beg iran for help then and I thought they changed.
Guess I wrong
Nobody is wrong with their view; I just didn’t get it.
Hezbollah is one of Iran’s strongest partners.
This was known for at least 2 years now. Maybe you even saw reports of this before but did not believe them. Hamas sided with FSA (and since Al Qaeda and HTS and all other scum are basically the core of FSA…) in this war. Of course, now they regret this decision, as they should. Still SAA needs to make them regret it even more.
I must admit that the sentence “HTS and several armed groups linked to the Palestinian Hamas Movement ” …. absolutely baffled me as I thought that HTS was AQ !!…..very strange.
Hamas was created by Israel, forgot?
Yep – Hamas openly declared their support for Syrian militants way back in 2012. They packed up their physical headquarters in Damascus and moved lock, stock and barrel to Doha. Because, Hamas are a Muslim Brotherhood derived faction – fundamentalist Sunni’s – and Qatar sponsors both the Muslim Brotherhood itself, and the largely Muslim Brotherhood derived Al-Nusra/HTS militants based in Syria. Recall Doha’s role in the ‘Arab Spring’ – they were the primary sponsor behind the Muslim Brotherhood briefly taking full state power in Egypt under Morsi, now deposed and imprisoned, whilst at the same time they simultaneously started sponsoring the Syrian armed domestic militants – the majority of whom were Muslim Brotherhood (usually with long history of conflict with secular Syrian state). Immediately prior to these events, the Qatari leadership was also deeply involved with the US/NATO overthrow of Gaddaffi in Libya. Doha bought and shipped masses of small arms to the Libyan coast, that were then handed to and distributed to Libyan militant factions by the CIA, and the whole exercise was meant to be repeated in Syria. But Assad proved far more resilient and popular, and as the war dragged on far longer than was expected by NATO and Gulf States, with time the differences between the militant sponsors themselves became very apparent – as Qatar sponsors the Muslim Brotherhood and Saudi Arabia do not – as latter sees them as huge threat to their own authority. As for Hamas – they went all in with Doha and bought into their sponsor’s assertions that Syria would collapse just like Libya, and that Muslim Brotherhood factions would come out with significant power. In short, Hamas have proved they are completely untrustworthy for both Syria and Iran – Hamas are a sectarian fundamentalist Sunni organization at their core.
Well if they can’t hold versus ISIS… Then maybe they can’t hold against SAA either. SAA and it’s allies (PFLP etc.) should take this opportunity and attack HTS/Hamas jihadists and wipe them out from certain districts before IS can take them.
