On October 20, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) repelled another ISIS attack on their positions north of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside after killing six fighters of the terrorist group.
“Heavy clashes broke out in this area after many attempts of the ISIS terrorist organization to strike our troops’ positions with RPGs, PKs [machine guns], Kalashnikovs and snipers. Our troops foiled these attempts and forced them to withdraw,” the SDF said in its daily press release.
The SDF media center reported that US-led coalition warplanes supported SDF fighters during the clashes and carried out six airstrikes on ISIS positions and vehicles north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani.
ISIS has not released any information about the supposed attack so far. However, the terrorist group news agency, Amaq, said that ISIS fighters had destroyed a vehicle of the SDF with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) around the town of al-Bahrah, north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani.
During the last the last two weeks, ISIS launched a series of attacks on SDF troops in the Euphrates Valley. The attacks didn’t only stop the advance of the SDF, but also forced the US-backed group to move into defense after losing dozens of its fighters.
