ISIS Cells Attacked Syrian Troops In Southern Raqqa In Response To Russian Airstrikes

On January 21, ISIS cells carried out another attack against Syrian government troops in the southern countryside of Raqqa.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the terrorists shot and killed two service members of the Syrian Arab Army in the outskirts of Resafa, one of the largest government-held towns in the southern Raqqa countryside.

The attack took place following a series of Russian airstrikes, which targeted ISIS terrorists, hideouts and equipment in southern Raqqa.

“Russian fighter jets executed over 20 airstrikes on the Syrian desert in the past 24 hours,” the SOHR said in a report.

Last year, ISIS cells began carrying out attacks in southern Raqqa after solidifying their presence in the Homs desert in central Syria.

Syrian government forces conduct operations against ISIS cells in the central region on a daily basis. Currently, a large-scale combing operation to secure the Homs-Deir Ezzor highway, the M20, is ongoing.

However, it seems that more serious measures are needed to address ISIS’ growing threat in the central region. The terrorist group’s cells have begun to launch larger and bolder attacks.

The Russian airstrikes were effective

Rhodium 10

Without Russian airstrike ISIS would have retaken all East Homs cities!…SAA conscripts dont fight and use to flee…why ISIS dont attack the road Al Bukamal-Deir Ezzor?…because IRGC are deployed there!..

Probably. Anyway Russia doesn’t want to totally end ISIS in the desert. They need it in their chess game to keep Assad under their boot.

Fog of War

Now we’re talking ! Dont forget what Russia’s partners want also.

Cromwell

If they know where these so called hideouts are after the air strikes they need to follow up with ground forces, just dropping bombs on a sand hill will not do the job.

Potato Man

As long money flow we will see this apes coming back to life.

Al Gathafi Did Nothing Wrong™

Isis got its greatest territorial extent in May 2015 under the presidency of Obama. I’m afraid that under Biden’s presidency the caliphate will regain lost territory.

johnny rotten

The isis is a scam, these are a gang of drug addicts led by isisrahell, the real terrorist, when isisrahell no longer exists the world will enter a new era of peace.

Fog of War

So Russia, Iran, and Syria are having trouble taking on some drug addicts ? You might want to rethink your premise.

John Smith

C’mon Russia! Surely Turkey and the Azeris have shown how drones can locate and neutralise enemy combatants long before they become a threat…?

Willing Conscience (The Truths

While the anti Isis military operations are seemingly ineffective we don’t know what the intelligence side of things are doing behind the scenes, are they gathering relevant associated information, tracking the movements of the Isis fighters and working out probable logistic routes, working out where the logistical hubs are most likely located, and discovering the towns and villages that are most likely assisting them, hopefully they are, and hopefully after a while they’ll be able to put all that built up knowledge to good use, with one big operation to trawl them all into the same net at the same time, and hopefully it’s not toooo far away, hopefully.
