ISIS Cells Blew Up Funereal Of SDF Fighter In Northeastern Syria

On April 2, ISIS attacked the funereal of a fighter of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Raqqa.

The terrorist group’s news agency, Amaq, said that the funeral was targeted with several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the area of al-Karamah. According to the agency’s claims, ten members of the SDF were killed or injured.

Local sources in Raqqa confirmed that the funeral of an SDF fighter who was recently killed, most likely in an attack by ISIS, was targeted. One of the vehicles leading the funeral was struck with an IED.

Contrary to ISIS claims, the local sources said an SDF fighter was killed and only three others were injured in the attack on the funereal.

In Iraq, ISIS is infamous for attacking the funerals of those deemed to be enemies of its self-proclaimed Caliphate. The group is apparently using this tactic in Syria to terrorize the locals.

A source in Asayish, the security forces of the SDF, told Enab Baladi that ISIS cells stepped up their activities in Raqqa recently. According to the source, the SDF will soon launch a large-scale security operation against the group’s cells in the governorate.

Earlier this year, the SDF carried out a large security operation against ISIS cells in Deir Ezzor. Later, a similar operation was launched in the notorious al-Hawl camp in al-Hasakah. The results of these operations were not very encouraging. The terrorist group is still operating in both areas.
